Advertising Degree

Advertising is a specific branch of marketing designed to encourage people to become aware of, desire and then purchase a product or service. The world of Advertising is quick to exploit any media, new or old. This might be a large poster on a roadside hoarding employing basic design and print through to web advertising, text messages, TV commercials, or extremely complex projects involving breakthrough technology and visual art software.

Competition for work in this industry is intense, and you will be expected to work long hours. The Bureau of Labor estimates that 38% of those employed in the industry worked over 50 hours per week. To succeed in this industry you need to be able to cope with last minute changes or problems and still meet tight deadlines. A junior account Executive might be a typical entry-level position and you would be required to liaise between the client and advertising agency departments.
