Medical Technician Training
A medical technician training
program gives you the skills you need to interact with patients, to take blood and
other samples, and to operate the laboratory equipment analyzing those samples. You
will take courses in medical terminology, biology and chemistry. You will learn how
to perform routine diagnostic tests, including hematology, bacteriology, urinalysis,
immunology, and chemistry. Depending on the program, you might also serve an externship,
allowing you to work in the office of a cooperating physician, clinic, or other healthcare
faculty.
Once you have completed your training program, and depending on your state, you may
need to pass a state licensing exam. You will then be eligible to work in laboratories,
clinics, hospitals, or physician's offices.
